About Us

Our Program

Live Oak Nursery is a mixed-age, family-style program that believes in honoring and respecting the spirit of childhood. We strive to provide relationship-based care with consistent caregivers to children from families of all races, ethnicities, gender identities, sexual orientations, and faiths. We work to foster creativity through child-led imaginative play and the nurturing arts of caring for our space, the earth, and each other. Daily activities are organized to provide a balance of indoor and outdoor free play time, giving your children the freedom to develop as healthy individuals in an intentionally curated environment. At Live Oak, children are allowed to explore and develop at their own pace and truly enjoy the natural wonders of being a child. The promotion of healthy habits, a healthy sense of self, the importance of respecting a diverse community, and being a responsible steward for the natural world are emphasized.

Live Oak Nursery is committed to building an inclusive and anti-racist environment. We work to honor our diverse community and are committed to fighting for equality and equity. We are mindful of using inclusive language with the children and will work on having all persons represented in our books and stories. We acknowledge that as a community we have much to learn and a lifetime of work to do.

Our Owner

Kelly Pickett (she/her) has been studying early childhood education for over 10 years. She recieved her bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from The University of New Orleans in 2014. Kelly taught in first and second grade classrooms before taking the opportunity to teach public speaking in Thailand. After fours years abroad she was thrilled to return to her original passion of caring for the earliest of learners. She has since spent countless hours learning as much as she can about how to be a respectful caregiver and help children build healthy communication, social, and emotional skills. She deeply believes that children deserve to be seen, heard and treated as fully formed humans.
